The Ghana Standard Authority,GSA says vulcanizers contribute greatly to road accidents in the country.
At a sensitization workshop organized by the GSA and the Vulcanizers Association of Ghana in Accra a representative from GSA, Evans Aseidu indicated that some vulcanisers inflate too much pressure in tyres even-though each car or motorcycle has a specific recommended tyre size and pressure clearly written on it by the manufacturers.
This is the cause of the incessant tyre bursts accidents on Ghanaian roads which puts too much blood on Ghana’s highways. Many are made widows, orphans due to loss of lives and huge occurrence of injuries.
According to Mr Aseidu the sensitization workshop seeks to train the vulcanizers on how to read the pressure guage in order to serve their client well.
He said the Authority will continue to engage vulcanisers across the country to ensure that they do their work effectively which will go a long way to reduce accidents on the roads.
Mr Aseidu GSA inspectors have been deployed nationwide to check calibration of gauges . He urged vulcanizers to cooperate with the inspectors when they visit their shops.
For his part General Secretary of the Association Basiru Karimu Bukorba commended Ghana Standard Authority for the sensitization workshop since it will help educate vulcanizers who have little idea about their jobs.
