A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has said the NDC will not honour the invitation the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) extended to its National Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
Mr, Ampofo has been invited by the CID for questioning over the recent wave of fires and kidnapping in the country.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Otokunor said the invitation is a complete encroachment on the rights of their National Chairman.
“We have seen the letter and I can assure you that our National Chairman will not be responding to this invitation. We are not going to honour this kind of invitation, because it is an assault on the fundamental human rights of our national chairman,” he said.
He further stated that the invitation is a clear act of intimidation and diversionary tactics by some forces in government.
The letter from the CID of the Ghana Police Service said Mr. Ampofo’s name had been mentioned by some suspects in the recent fire and kidnapping cases.
“Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into the cases of kidnapping and fire outbreaks in various parts of the country. Intelligence gathered indicates that some of these kidnapping and fire outbreaks are being orchestrated by various unidentified groups, person and individuals.”
“Some of these persons picked up for interrogation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country. As a result of the above information and intelligence, you are kindly requested to report to the undersigned on Thursday 9th May 2019 at 2 p.m to assist our investigation.”
