Ghana today is marking its 62nd Independence Anniversary. The celebration for the first time is being held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale, the capital of Northern Region. This has brought joy to the people of tamale and its environs since it has boosted trading activities and hospitality services.
President Akuffo Addo in his State of Nations Address stated that this year’s Independence Day celebration will be held in Tamale to commemorate the peace that was restored in Dagbon.
“We spent enough time, energy and money to resolve the Dagbon dispute and I pray that we all continue the process until peace becomes the fabric of Dagbon, in order to reinforce and support the process of reconciliation and the restoration of peace in Dagbon, I have decided that this year, the 62nd Independence Day celebration will be held in Tamale on 6th March,” he said.
“This will be the first time in our nation’s history that the celebration is being held outside of our national capital, Accra. I am very much looking forward to it. I’m certainly not looking for praise for the peace that has come to Dagbon. I want time, money and effort to be spent on making Dagbon and Ghana great,” he added.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Celebrating Peace and Unity” and President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou is the Special Guest of Honour for the celebration.
