The ruling  New Patriotic Party has condemned a leaked audio recording circulating involving National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress , Samuel Ofosu Ampofo endorsing a campaign of lies, threats ,assassination and insult against the Chairperson of the  Electoral Commission Jean Mensah and the Chairman of the National peace council.

At a press  conference, Director of  Communications of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah said this is “bad and ugly” and called on the rank and file of the NDC  to demand the resignation of Samuel Ofosu Apofo.

A leaked tape purported to be the voice of NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo in a meeting with party communicators revealed plans by the NDC to unleash attacks on key personalities in Ghana including the EC chairperson Jean Mensa and the  Chairman of the National Peace Council.

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo was heard saying “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”

“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,” Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said at a meeting with the party’s communicators.

Ofosu-Ampofo also supported  the communicators to verbally attack the  Chairman of the National Peace Council Professor Emmanuel Asante.

“For the first time, I will endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair,” he said .

“The party will come out with a number of policy initiatives. Security and Intelligence Unit in the party will be formed and we will appoint National Coordinator, Regional, District and Constituency officers to lead these Units as we zoom along into 2020,” the national chairman announced.

NPP  Director of Communications Yaw Buabeng Asamoah called for members of the party to demand the resignation of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

“People who believe in ideology in the party must rise and demand his resignation in order to restore the moral right to take part in decent elections. “right thinking people of the party must rise and distance themselves from this shameful leadership “he stated.

He also asked the flagbearer of the NDC to reconsider his political philosophy on “boot for boot “and do away with lies and use of political related violence for his benefit.

“I congratulate the new leader of the NDC and ask “greedy” Mahama to take clear and public steps to rid his party off the fabric embedded into his party.” Ghana is hungry for progress. “Until we get to the bottom of this matter, Ghana is not stable; until we get to the bottom of this matter Ghana is not safe”.

He stated that the NDC is not an alternative for decent Politics “the NDC has plans to weaponise their party to become terrorist organization and  Former President John Mahama intends to lead violent organization in his quest to become president.

He said the NDC and Mr. Mahama appear “greedy” for power, and are doing everything desperately to capture power in 2020 regardless of the danger it poses to the nation.

The Communications Director noted that the NPP will espouse rule of law and ask civil society organizations and citizens to take advantage of President Akuffo-Addos’s bold decision to end political violence and fully participate in the commission’s work.

On the issue of the call by the president for the NPP and the NDC to meet and dialogue on the disbandment of Vigilante groups,  Yaw Buabeng said the NDC have not shown any interest since in the leaked recording the National Chairmain was heard talking about the establishment of Ballot policing Unit adding that “it is not for the NPP to pull back but the NDC to accept that violence is wrong” .

.Meanwhile the Communication team of the National Democratic Congress appears to be giving contradictory comments on the leaked tape which has gone viral.

The party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi denies the leaked tape and described it as ‘fake’ and ‘doctored’. He believed that it was a deliberate attempt by NPP to divert attention of citizens from Anas’s expose on illegal mining by some officers in government.

But his deputy, Kwaku Boahen in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’ confirmed that indeed the voice and very utterances heard on the tape is that of Mr Ofosu-Ampofo.
